Review of Geotechnical Properties of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement for Reuse in Infrastructure

Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) has been extensively studied for potential use as a recycled material in infrastructure construction. There is consensus that utilization of RAP provides environmental and economic benefits most projects. However, impacts to engineering performance are less known, owing the highly variable nature sources with different asphalt pavement mixtures milling processes, which limited adoption fill geotechnical infrastructure. This study conducted comprehensive review properties reported experimental literature. The gradation, specific gravity, density, moisture content, hydraulic conductivity, leaching, shear strength, creep summarized compared. These properties, well recent investigations into effects temperature aggregate mixing, were used identify reuse highway transportation applications beyond just mixture design, such embankments. Additionally, correlations between gradation (Cu, D10, D85), maximum dry saturated strength identified.
